Labor Day on the Farm

September 3, 2024

We spent Labor Day bringing in the harvest, feeding and caring for animals, and working on the honey harvest. The sun’s angle has changed, mornings are darker and crops are changing. We can truly feel the late summer seasonal shift, and we are ready for it!

We spent Labor Day, all outside working together, in beautiful weather. Spirits were as high as the fluffy white clouds in the sky. In addition to bringing in the harvest, September 1st kicks off the “birthday season” on the farm. Three of our four farm team members have birthdays this month, so we take time to celebrate together.

We delayed lunch in favor of eating homemade tres leches cake together. We sat together talking about the similarities and differences in horoscopes in Mexico and in the U.S. We swapped stories from our youth and the lives of our children today. The laughter we share on the farm is a constant for which we are very grateful.

Gavin and Jeff spent hours harvesting, straining and bottling honey from their hives. Due to some wasp intruders, this year’s honey harvest wasn’t as fruitful as last season’s bumper harvest. Luckily, the liquid gold is just as beautiful and will be for sale in the Farm Store later this year.

Finally, we took a walk through the farm fields to monitor out the progress of our late season crops. With any luck and our trusted farm team to help us, we have a delicious late summer and fall shares of the harvest for you ahead!

Jeff, Jen, Gavin, Anacleto, David, Cleto and Miguel
