Summer Farm Camp FAQs

Can my 5-yr old attend camp?
Our camp is designed for children ages 6–12. However, if your child has completed kindergarten, they are welcome to join us! We want to ensure all campers are ready for the activities we offer, which are geared toward school-age skills.

What is Saturday Family Camp?
Families can enjoy facilitated team-building and farm-based fun during this 2-hour experience, concluding with time to relax over a bring-your-own picnic on the farm.

What time does camp run?
Our programs are half-day sessions running Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

How much does a camp scholarship cover?
Through the generosity of our community, a limited number of scholarships are available for families who would like to participate but are currently unable to afford the full program cost. Camp scholarships cover 25% of the total program cost for each camper awarded.

What if there’s bad weather (e.g., severe weather or heat advisories)?
Our camp runs rain or shine; however, if severe weather is predicted, we will adjust accordingly. For example:

  • If severe weather is expected, camp will be held safely indoors until conditions improve.
  • If extreme heat is forecasted, we will spend mornings outdoors during cooler hours and then move indoors to air-conditioned spaces as temperatures rise.

What should my camper wear?
We spend most of the day outdoors, so campers will likely get dirty—that’s part of the fun! Please check the weather daily and dress your child accordingly. Here are some tips:

  • Closed-toed shoes (no sandals)
  • Layers (e.g., T-shirt and sweatshirt) for cool mornings and warm afternoons
  • Hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen are recommended
  • Bug spray is recommended
  • Please note: The farm is a buzzing ecosystem! We encourage daily tick checks.

What should I pack for my child to eat?
To maintain a safe and inclusive environment, please send your camper with a nut-free snack and sack lunch each day. We have a snack break around 11:00 a.m. and lunch at noon. Please also send a labeled water bottle daily. Refrigerators and microwaves are not available.

May I stroll the farm while waiting for my child?
For safety reasons, the farm is closed to the public during non-event hours. Except for designated Living Laboratory spaces during Summer Camp, the farm is a working environment with tractors and large vehicles moving regularly. We ask that you remain near your vehicle in the parking lot while waiting for your child.

How are groups divided?
Children will be divided into groups based on age and/or theme. Some activities will be done separately by each group, while others will include multiple groups together. If a sibling or friend would like to be in the same group, please let us know.

Can my camper apply sunscreen and insect repellent at camp?
We recommend that parents apply sunscreen and insect repellent to their child before arriving at camp each day. Staff will remind and encourage campers to reapply as needed, but will not be responsible for applying these products.

Can my child bring toys, games, or electronics?
To help campers stay engaged with nature and their peers, we ask that children do not bring toys, games, or electronic devices such as iPads, tablets, or gaming consoles. Cell phones may be brought but must remain silenced and stored in backpacks during camp hours. If you need to contact your child, please call one of our staff directly.

What is ePact?
Liberty Prairie is using ePact, a trusted and secure health and safety software, to make it easier for you to securely provide your campers' health and medical information. This information allows us to provide a safe, supportive environment for your camper. Your child's safety and security matter to us! If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
