Welcome Back — and Welcome to the 20th Season

Welcome Back — and Welcome to the 20th Season

Spring has arrived at Liberty Prairie, and with it, the particular kind of beautiful chaos that only farmers and the people who appreciate them truly understand.

The greenhouses are full. Seedlings we've been coaxing along through a cold, wet spring are finding their footing — trays and trays of starts that represent hundreds of small decisions, hopes, and bets on the season ahead.

Out in the fields, asparagus is pushing up through the soil, one of our favorite moments of the year. There is something about that first emergence that feels like greeting an old friend — a reminder that it's still here, still generous.

The spring greens are ready. The farm store is stocked. School groups are arriving for wellness days and outdoor learning. Summer farm camp preparations are underway. And last week, we sat down to interview the next group of interns who will work alongside us through the summer and fall.

The interview process reminds us of bigger lessons we can share.

The young people who came to talk with us weren't looking for an easy summer. They were looking for something real — something that would test them and ask something of them they hadn't given before. We recognized that hunger immediately, because we've seen what it produces.

Jeff's current interns spent this past year arriving on dark winter Saturday mornings in snow gear and boots when it would have been far easier to stay inside. They built skills in caring for animals, each other, the soil — becoming resilient, knowledgeable, funny, and brave, often in the same hour. Mr. Miller couldn't be more proud.

When you join this CSA, this is part of what you're joining  — a place that is actively impacting people. The interns who worked through those cold mornings will carry what they learned here into the rest of their lives. The kids on field trips go home and look at their dinner plates differently. And our hope — the belief that has kept Jeff and me farming this same land for twenty years — is that you feel it too. Connecting with local food, farmers, and the land — even for those who, like us, never imagined becoming farmers — has a way of changing you.

Join Us This Weekend: The Annual Spring Plant Sale

One of our favorite ways to begin the season is to open up the farm and invite you in — and this Friday and Saturday, we're doing exactly that.

  • Friday: VIP Day — invite-only event, including for CSA members
  • Saturday: Plant Sale & Farm Festival — sheep shearing, spring bingo, wagon rides, food trucks and plenty to explore

Come walk the land, meet your farmers and interns, visit the animals, and see the place your food comes from. We would love to see you!

Thank you for being here — for the first time, or the twentieth. Either way, we're glad you're with us.

Here's to a season growing together,
Jen & Jeff Miller
