In times that feel uncertain, we long for steadiness, consistency, and reliability. During the pandemic, Jeff and I found that trust by turning to the land and the natural patterns around us at the farm. The land grounds us. Liberty Prairie’s four strategic priorities are rooted in extending this same trust to you.

Today, most land in Illinois and across the country is privately owned—much of it farmed conventionally and closed to the public.
Liberty Prairie is charting a new path, building on our over 30-year history as we transform our 95 acres in Lake County, Illinois, into a thriving living laboratory where conservation agriculture, regional food systems, and experiential education grow side by side.
We are a working farm that teaches for life. Here’s how we prioritize our work:

We practice conservation agriculture. We demonstrate how working land can restore ecosystems, enrich soil health, and support the well-being of people, plants, and animals in harmony.

We provide experiential education. We immerse students in authentic experiences that bring classroom concepts alive, develop skills for life, foster community connection, protect our wildlife, and feed our community.

We build economic opportunity for local growers. We provide a consistent marketplace for farmers and champion the structures needed to increase the demand for local food.

We collaborate, learn, and lead to ensure long-term health. We provide a national model for how the principles above can be applied in any setting where people, plants, and animals live together.

When you visit the farm next—perhaps at this weekend’s Farm Festival—we hope you find it to be a place where your curiosity takes root and community is built.
