On Saturday, we celebrated the Living Laboratory with a “ribbon-cutting” but in actuality, it was a “twine-cutting!” We decided to open the Living Laboratory with a celebratory cutting of the twine on a straw bale. Sharing a laugh together was a great way to start the beautiful day with CSA members and friends of the farm.
Opening remarks shared the stories of interconnectedness and the work that went into developing an outdoor classroom for students and community members of all ages.
Students led activity stations where attendees could experience hands-on learning and fun.
People were drawn to visiting and learning about the silvopasture where the goats, sheep and chickens live.
Everyone had a chance to identify and taste six plant parts.
The Living Laboratory map guided walks and wagon rides through the farm.
The education garden encouraged strolling, conversations, and interactions with dye, fiber, three sisters, and cover-cropped gardens.
Attendees explored the farm at their leisure enjoying conversations along the way.
After the event, CSA members were invited to pick from the last of late summer crops in hoophouses.
Members left with basil, parsley, celery, zucchini, peppers, eggplant and tomatoes.
We couldn’t think of a better way to spend an October morning!
Thank you for supporting our work as we strengthen the local foodshed and pay forward our knowledge of agriculture to others.
Warmly,
Your farmers and Liberty Prairie team
