We Joined Forces: Liberty Prairie and Prairie Wind Family Farm are Stronger Together

November 21, 2023

Karen Wilkes, Executive Director, Jeff Miller and Jen Miller, Managing Directors

Our business model has changed. We are deepening our efforts at the intersection of conservation and agriculture while invigorating the local foodshed.  As we imagined how we could make an even bigger community impact, the radical thought of deeper collaboration at a structural level with Prairie Wind Family Farm came into focus.

We are excited to share with you that Liberty Prairie and Prairie Wind Family Farm have joined forces under the name Liberty Prairie to grow our shared impact further than we could as individual organizations. To reflect this collaboration we integrated Prairie Wind’s signature windmill into our logo.

Over the last seventeen years, Prairie Wind Family Farm’s focus on community-supported-agriculture has created a significant audience and regional impact to the local food system. Jeff and Jen Miller have mentored beginning farmers, presented on panels, and led research initiatives while also invigorating the farmstand during the uncertain days of the pandemic. As our focus on education, broader community impact, and access is front and center, we are moving and growing the farmstand to a beautiful retail space in Prairie Crossing at Station Square. This location allows greater access as folks can get there by car, bike, foot, or train. We will accept WIC, cash, and credit cards.

The name of our store is Liberty Prairie Farm Store and is located at 970 Harris Road, Unit 1B in Prairie Crossing Station Square. Our Grand Opening Celebration is Saturday, November 11th from 9 am – 4 pm. We will offer the food products grown at the farm as well as new products from farms committed to sustainability. In addition a community room is part of this store where classes will be offered and organizations can rent space for meetings.

The 2024 Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program will continue under Liberty Prairie, just as it has with Jeff, Jen, and their team. Moving forward we will include education and work based learning with local high school students into our farming. We will continue to source fruit and egg shares from longtime farming partners. While much is changing, our commitment to building and supporting our community remains steadfast.

Please join us to grow this impact. You can do this by:

  • Joining our CSA program
  • Shopping with us at the farm store
  • Volunteering your time at the store
  • Making a donation to Liberty Prairie

Thank you for supporting conservation, work-based education, and the farmers who enrich our local foodshed.

We look forward to seeing you at the store!
