Schola Antiqua – Early Music Series 2016-2017
4 p.m. Sun., Jan. 8 at the Byron Colby Barn in Grayslake
Come hear Schola Antiqua as they perform “Murder in the Cathedral” under artistic director Michael Alan Anderson. The program features songs from the thirteenth century through the fifteenth century for the famously slain Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Becket. Following his brutal murder and subsequent canonization, Thomas was venerated with gestures of cultural expression, and the saint’s shrine in Canterbury Cathedral became an important destination for pilgrims. Spanning an array of genres, Schola Antiqua’s concert recounts the stories and varied perceptions of Thomas.
